In 1981, Pat took her first step toward managing her weight by having gastric bypass surgery. She was one of the first candidates to receive the new weight-loss surgery and over time she lost well over 100 pounds because of it.
Although Pat had initially lost a large amount of weight the weight eventually crept back on. The surgery had helped her to lose weight, but there was no nutritional support afterwards to help her develop healthy eating habits. She knew she had a weight issue again and was growing concerned with her blood sugar levels which were too high. A friend, who was a long-time fan of Nutritional Weight & Wellness, recommended that Pat join her in taking the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss program. Pat agreed to give it a try.
Over the course of the 12-week class that included a nutrition consultation with Lea, Pat lost 35 pounds and 15 inches. “What really hit home for me was the scientific information about how different foods affect the cells within my body,” Pat remarked. “Moods, sleep, digestion…it’s all impacted by food choices.” In addition to her weight loss, Pat has also experienced more restful sleep, better digestion, gained strength and improved energy. “I was recently tending to my garden and was amazed by how much energy I had to continue working,” Pat stated. She continues to monitor her blood sugar levels and has seen drastic improvements, improvements that both she and her doctor are thrilled with.
The best benefit that Pat has experienced as a result of the class is the impact it has had on her family. Her daughter, son and grandchildren are all open to learning more from her. They are becoming more aware of the foods they eat and are learning to choose real foods. She has helped her daughter with meal planning and is showing her how to shop to replace processed foods with real foods. Her son now follows an eating plan that includes more healthy fat—a new idea for him—and he’s already lost five pounds. Her granddaughter has lost 75 pounds and continues to lose. “The family support and enthusiasm has been great. I’m so happy that my grandchildren are addressing their food habits now, while they are young. The healthy food choices they learn today will have lifelong impact on them.”
