I have struggled with my weight my entire life. In 2010, I had gastric bypass surgery and lost 150 pounds. I kept the weight off for the first two years, but slowly started to gain it back. By 2015, I had gained back 110 to 120 pounds and was once again close to my max weight.
I was consumed by sugar and found myself compulsively eating Swedish Fish candy. I attended counseling for binge eating for close to two years. While enrolled in the counseling program, I found and listened to Dishing Up Nutrition, which is how I heard about Nutrition 4 Weight Loss. The idea that food can fix so many things was intriguing to me. When I enrolled in the class in September 2016, my head was in the right place to make the necessary lifestyle changes.
I loved the physiological focus of the class and the idea that everything starts in the gut. I found it very interesting to learn about the scientific facts and research behind the Nutritional Weight and Wellness way of eating and living your life. There was a wealth of information about how food affects your body. I never realized how many things can impact you physically, like not getting enough sleep. At that time, I never got seven or eight hours of sleep and didn't realize that could be contributing to my weight gain. On top of that, I was shocked to discover that many of the foods that I thought were good for me, really weren't.
During the course of the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss program, I lost 40 pounds and was thrilled. Within just the first few weeks, I noticed my sugar cravings were gone. Even more important than the weight loss, is how much better I feel. Before the class, I struggled with low moods and depression. Now I am positive and hopeful, and know I can continue to lose weight because I am in control of my eating and of my life.
My teacher, Oralee, was very funny and made the class interesting and engaging. I really enjoyed the accountability of being in the class with other people who were also trying to lose weight. I liked the class so much, that I signed up for another session in January 2017. I also appreciated the support of having a nutritionist. I never felt like I was getting enough help before, but my nutritionist, Kate, understood how food could be causing me to react a certain way. I appreciate how she creates a very personal plan designed around my needs, it's not a one-size-fits-all eating plan.
