My health transformation began several months ago. I had just returned home from a trip to Europe and I was feeling terrible with bloating and an upset stomach—it hit me hard and wouldn’t go away. Having been diagnosed with diverticulosis years before, I thought I was having a flare up. I knew I had to see a specialist about the issues I was having, but before making an appointment with my doctor, I decided to try addressing my nutrition. That’s when I called Nutritional Weight & Wellness. I called on a Wednesday and enrolled in the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss program that started the following day! The very first class was life-changing for me. A light bulb went on in my head—I knew this class was going to help me and I was right. Within two weeks, I was sleeping better and noticing weight loss.

A Laundry List of Health Problems

In the past, I struggled with a laundry list of health issues: poor sleep, sinus infections, chronic coughing, arthritis pain in my foot, migraines, digestive issues and excess weight (as a result of early menopause). At times, my health issues held me back from enjoying an active lifestyle and being active every day is important to me. Even after seeing several specialists such as ENTs, a pulmonologist and a neurologist, I still had issues until I started the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss program.

I Had the Confidence to Try New Things

My nutrition counseling with Katie was great. It is such a wonderful combination to have the 12-week class along with the one-on-one with a nutritionist. Katie made recommendations that seemed daunting at first, but she presented the information of why the changes may help in a logical, informative way with helpful handouts, meal suggestions and ideas. She gave me the confidence to try new things and made it easy for me.

Sleeping Great and Increased Immunity

After taking the Nutrition 4 Weight Loss classes and meeting with Katie, I’m sleeping sounder and longer. Before, I often relied on taking a Benadryl® at night to fall asleep and even then I would wake up in the night and feel tired during the day. This past winter I never got a cold, but every winter in the past I would inevitably get a cold or the flu that would develop into a painful sinus infection, often accompanied by chronic coughing that would leave me exhausted. Not getting sick was one of the biggest surprises to me since I work with children, teaching them piano, and I frequently come in contact with sick kids. My immune system is so strong now. Another pleasant surprise is that the pain in my foot is gone. I no longer worry about overdoing physical activity for fear that my foot pain will flare. My worries in general have lessened and I’m much better at handling stress now that I’m getting good sleep and my blood sugar is balanced.

The Weight Just Started Coming Off

And then there is the weight loss…30 pounds and several inches are gone—5 inches from my waistline alone! A doctor once told me that I would never be able to lose weight because my metabolism was so screwed up from going through early menopause. This left me feeling hopeless and I thought I’d never lose weight. I believed what the doctor had told me. In fact, my initial goal in coming to Nutritional Weight & Wellness was to get my digestion back on track, not lose weight. But along with getting healthy and feeling so good, the weight just starting coming off and I wasn’t even thinking about it! Now I’m 30 pounds lighter and feeling healthier than ever.
